Transport Options & Assistance in Victoria

 

Access Travel Pass – Free Public Transport

The Access Travel Pass provides free travel on public transport for eligible Victorians.
To be eligible, you must:

  • Have a significant permanent physical disability, cognitive condition, or mental illness
     
  • Be unable to consistently touch on or off due to your condition
     
  • Be able to travel independently, without assistance from a carer or companion
     
  • Be a Victorian resident

Scooter and Wheelchair Travel Pass

Provides free public transport for people who rely on a scooter or wheelchair and meet eligibility requirements.

Ambulance Victoria – Membership Cover & Non-Emergency Transport

Ambulance Victoria membership can include non-emergency transport to the nearest medical facility if it is clinically necessary and pre-approved.
Transport is covered when:

  • The trip is to the nearest, most appropriate medical facility
     
  • It is authorised by a qualified health professional (doctor, nurse, or paramedic)
     
  • The patient requires active clinical monitoring or supervision during transport
     

Please note:

  • Only Ambulance Victoria or contracted providers are covered
     
  • Transport must be authorised and cannot be self-booked
     
  • Membership only applies when no third party (e.g., hospital) is responsible for payment

Companion Card – Free Travel for Carers

The Companion Card allows a carer or companion to travel free on public transport when accompanying a person with a disability.

Multi Purpose Taxi Program

This program offers half-price taxi fares for eligible Victorians with disabilities.
Applications can be made through your GP or health professional.

Peninsula Transport Assist

Provides community-based transport for residents across the Mornington Peninsula region.

VicRoads L2P Program

The L2P Program helps young Victorian learner drivers aged 16–21 (and in some cases up to 23) who don’t have access to a supervising driver or vehicle.
It provides supervised driving experience to help achieve the required hours for a probationary licence.

After-Care Transport Services

After-Care provides disability and aged care transport, with trained carers to assist during trips.
Services include:

  • Non-emergency transport
     
  • Doctor’s appointments
     
  • Prescription collection
     
  • Trips to and from respite or community programs
     
  • Shopping and banking assistance

The Godfather – Personalised Wheelchair Transport

The Godfather offers door-to-door transport for wheelchair users, with a trained personal carer/driver.
Perfect for:

  • Medical appointments (Frankston, Monash, Melbourne)
     
  • Airport drop-offs and pick-ups
     
  • Prescription collection
     
  • Respite or shopping trips
     

Available throughout Melbourne’s south-east — from Mordialloc to Portsea.

Red Cross Patient Transport (VIC)

Red Cross provides free, volunteer-based transport for eligible people who need help accessing essential medical appointments.

Eligibility:

  • Referred by a medical practitioner
     
  • Unable to access other transport options
     
  • Must be able to walk unassisted or manage steps with a walking aid
     
  • Must be able to get in and out of a standard passenger vehicle
     

Service hours:

  • Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays)
     
  • Appointments:
     
    • Regional: 10am – 2pm
       
    • Metro: 9am – 12pm
